Can You Hear Me?

Cutting through the clutter of so many channels in order to be heard by customers is a constant challenge for small or independent businesses. Competing with the mega-marketing budgets of competitors may seem like a dim prospect, but you can do several things to cut through the noise that bombards your customers so they hear YOUR story.

We really like this post from www.firebellymarketing.com on content creation and especially loved the quote, “…write great stuff, and do it on a consistent basis.” Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.

You know you need to make content creation and social media messaging a priority in your marketing plan, but how do you do that on top of all the other stuff it takes to run a small business? What if you don’t have a dedicated person to do marketing for you or you have (or are) one who needs a way to keep track of all the content you want to create?

  • Create a system. Plan out what you want to post, when and where you plan to post it.
  • Be consistent. If you are going to have a business facebook or twitter account, plan to post something several times a week.
  • Be authentic. Your customers want to hear YOUR voice. Let them get to know YOU and everybody will win from the relationship you’ll build.

Communicate with fidelity. Say you have a website, a facebook page, a twitter feed and a blog. An example of your messaging plan might look like this:

  • Post to the blog with links, tags and maybe even a video.
  • Take the link to the post and share it with your facebook fans, with a quote from your post to generate interest.
  • Take that same post and add a direct link to the video you included in your post for your twitter feed.
  • Place a button to the product you are promoting on your website home page so visitors from the blog, facebook or twitter feed can get right to it.
  • Give your sales staff and your customer service teams a flyer about the product and a maybe a sample to share.
